Wally Brown
Principal, Liverpool Community College
Wally was born in Toxteth and took an apprenticeship in engineering at GEC. Whilst he was at GEC he was one of only four or five black people working there within a workforce of 12,000. During his 16 years at GEC he was the only black apprentice.
Whilst working full time he saw an advert for a part time youth worker. He applied and got the job. He carried on working full time whilst working part time as a youth worker. He loved the role of youth worker and so strived to make it his full time career. Wally was heavily involved in community integration during the 1970’s. Wally is now the Principal of Liverpool Community College.
